Sheriffs want looser gun laws than the American public

Polls in 2021 of sheriffs and Americans in general find a majority of Americans wanting gun laws to be more strict, another one-third comfortable or uncertain about them, and just one in seven wanting them to be less strict. An overwhelming majority of three-quarters of sheriffs, by contrast, want looser gun laws.
