13 States Have Abortion Trigger Bans if Roe v. Wade Is Overturned

Of the 26 states that are certain or likely to ban abortion, 13 already have laws in place that are designed to be “triggered” and take effect automatically or quickly if Roe is overturned. Some of these states already have other abortion-related bans.

None: No abortion trigger ban
Requires a Process: Bans go into effect after certification from a state’s attorney general, governor or other specified official. This process could take hours or days.
After 30 Days: Bans go into effect 30 days after Roe is overturned
Effective Immediately: Abortion is immediately banned
