Cities with the highest violent crime rates per 100,000 residents in 2024

Among cities with populations over 250,000, Memphis, Tennessee, had the highest violent crime rate. Of the top 10, there is a mix of Democratic-led cities in Democratic-led states and Democratic-led cities in Republican-led states.

Rates were calculated for cities with populations of 250,000 or higher, using population estimates provided by the FBI in Table 8 of the CIUS report rather than U.S. Census Bureau estimates. Some rates may be higher or lower than Stateline's analysis, which relied on Census estimates released in May.
