Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen held 26 town halls between May 3 and June 28, mainly focusing on cities in western and central Nebraska. Pillen has not held town halls in the most populous counties of Lancaster or Douglas, home to the state’s capital city and largest metropolitan area. Those counties are represented by more Democratic lawmakers than Republicans in the officially nonpartisan Legislature. A few dozen people attended each town hall, with close to 100 in some venues. The smallest city was Ainsworth, at 1,616, up to Bellevue, population 64,989. Pillen visited 22 legislative districts, of which 20 are represented by Republicans.
