This map shows the percentage of car crash fatalities where occupants were not wearing seat belts in 2022. States like New Hampshire, North Dakota, and Wyoming have the highest percentages of unrestrained fatalities, while Utah and Minnesota have the lowest.

Highest percentages of unrestrained fatalities: Wyoming (69%), North Dakota (68%), New Hampshire (59%). Lowest percentages: Minnesota (28%), Alaska (30%), Oregon (31%). Non-compliance with seat belts is a major contributor to preventable deaths across all states.
