Changes to refugee policy that excluded people seeking asylum by boat from applying for permanent protection from 2013 mean the data is not directly comparable. 1. The data is based on Protection visa application lodgement date, irrespective of when the person arrived in Australia. 2. Includes Electronic Travel Authority and other visitor visas. 3. This information is provided by the Department of Home Affairs and was extracted from departmental systems. As data has been drawn from a dynamic system environment, the information is correct at the time of extraction and figures may differ slightly from previous or future reporting. 4. Applications lodged in one program year may not be finalised in the same program year. Therefore, data relating to lodgements and finalisations (grants and refusals) in a program year cannot be directly compared.
