Maternity Care in America: Who's Covered, Who Isn't?
Women in maternity care deserts are of childbearing age and live in counties with no hospital, birth center, or OB provider offering maternity care, the most severe tier of access loss tracked nationally. Roughly 150,000 babies are still born each year to people living in these counties, often far from the nearest labor and delivery unit.
