Effects of the Expanded Child Tax Credit

The expansion of the Child Tax Credit in the stimulus bill passed by the House on Wednesday would increase the tax benefit by an average of $2,750 for families with children ages 17 and younger. The benefit for families with children earning less than $21,300 annually would increase to $4,570, boosting income by 37%.

The bill for the first time makes the credit available for 17-year-olds, who are not included in these estimates.
