Figure 2.1.3 - Rates of Bicycle Commuting by State

During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic all modes of commuting to work saw a large reduction. As of 2025, slightly less than half of states have seen their rate of bicycle commuting recover or increase compared to before the pandemic.

The Covid-19 pandemic disrupted many commuting patterns. This table shows rates of bicycle commuting before and after the pandemic for states.
All data comes from 1-year estimates from the B08006 table in the American Community Survey published by the Census Bureau. No 1-year estimate was published for 2020 due to disruptions from the Covid-19 pandemic. The "Change After Covid" column compares 2021-2022 and 2023-2024 data. The "Compared to 2019" column compares 2024 and 2019.
