Utility money to 527 political groups reaches an all-time high
Contributions from utilities and their trade associations to major Republican and Democratic 527 groups reached a record $12.7 million through September 2026, nearly triple the 2016 total.
Utility companies and trade associations have contributed millions each year to major Democratic and Republican 527 organizations that spend heavily to influence state elections. Utility donations to Section 527 political groups have surged since 2016.
