Where grad students say they want to live

Grad students who responded to the survey showed the highest preferences for living in states along the East and West Coasts, particularly California and New York, as well as a few in the middle of the country. The data shows the share of students surveyed who said they'd prefer to live in these states. About 36% stated a preference for living outside of the U.S.

Results are based on a March survey of nearly 2,000 graduate students studying physics, chemistry, biology, psychology or sociology. A little over 8% of respondents said they have no preference.
