Income quintile groups divide the population on the basic of household disposal income – money available to spend or save after tax and other charges are paid. The first quintile represents the 20 per cent of the population with the lowest disposable income, the second quintile the next 20 per cent and so on up to the fifth quintile which is the best off 20 per cent.
