Typically, the countries that opted for stricter lockdowns saw a greater drop in GDP. Some offset that through heavy spending, but at the expense of more debt. Countries that opted for weaker measures (e.g. the U.S.), saw less GDP drop, but higher COVID-19 caseloads.
