Weapons arrests rise to levels not seen since mid-’90s

While arrests for weapons possession and other regulatory offenses are lower than their peak in the early 1990s, these arrests rose in recent years. The police department did not always publish statistics or include race in their reporting, but across all years where data is available, Black people made up the bulk of these arrests.

While this category of arrests can reflect weapons other than guns, a review of recent years of data found that most involved guns. Counts of other racial or ethnic groups are combined into an "All Other" category because they are not defined consistently across all years. Counts reflect the most recent annual report that showed statistics for a particular year.
