Mosquito abatement districts span Chicago's far reaches, but don't provide city-wide coverage

Illinois state legislators implemented "mosquito abatement districts" as municipality-controlled(-ish) governmental bodies in 1927 to allow boards to man mosquito control in the wake of dengue and yellow fever. Two districts — Northwest and South Cook — now span parts of Chicago's borders, and two — Desplaines and North Shore — get frustratingly close.

District boundaries were created by stitching together various maps provided by M.A.D.s in the region.
