State organs:

National People’s Congress (NPC)
The national legislature of China has around 3,000 delegates who meet for two weeks every March
at the “Two Sessions” to vote on important laws.

National People’s Congress Standing Committee
Over 170 policymakers, each serving a five-year term, meet once at the end of every even-numbered
month for at least three days to review and promulgate drafts and amendments of national laws.

State Council Executive Meeting
Chaired by the Premier, the chief administrative organ of government meets at least once a week to
draw up measures and issue decisions and orders.

State Council Study Session
Chaired by the Premier, the chief administrative organ of government hosts a series of themed
study sessions that run over a set time period.

Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference
The CPPCC National Committee is the national branch of the CPPCC which is a is a united front organization
serving as China‘s top advisory body.

Party agencies:

Politburo Standing Committee
The committee currently consists of seven Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) supreme leaders
who meet when necessary to discuss policies and take decisions on major issues.

Politburo
The main decision-making body of the party made up of 25 top party members,
meets at least once a month.

Politburo Study Session
A monthly meeting for top party members to learn from an expert on subject matter of strategic importance.
Xi Jinping or the top leadership then outline policy preferences and priorities on the topic.

Central Committee (CCP)
Tasked to elect the party’s General Secretary and Politburo members, the CCP’s top political body
of about 400 members serves for five years and holds an annual plenum that lasts for at least three days.

Central Commission for Comprehensively Deepening Reforms
Chaired by Xi Jinping, the supra-ministerial body meets once every two months to decide on
policy guidelines on a wide spectrum of long-term reform issues.

Central Commission for Discipline Inspection
The party’s anti-graft watchdog meets every January at a three-day plenum to review goals and tasks. Members serve
a five-year term and are responsible for enforcing internal rules, party discipline and persecuting corrupt officials.

Central Commission for Financial and Economic Affairs
Chaired by Xi, the highest body for coordination and discussion on issues related to the economy meets once every
three or four months to lead and supervise work carried out by the Central Committee and State Council.

Central Commission for National Security
Overseen by Xi Jinping and central to China’s unified national security system, this party organ supports and coordinates
the PRC’s “comprehensive national security.”

Central Commission for Political and Legal Affairs
The party’s top authority overseeing China’s security and police force meets every January.

Central Economic Work Conference
This annual three-day meeting held in December is attended by China’s top policymakers, financial regulators
and economic planners. It formulates the annual agenda for the national economy and the country’s financial sector.

Central Party School
The Party School of the CCP Central Committee in Beijing, also known as the Central Party School
(National School of Administration) is an institute for training elite party cadres.
