Candidate puts own money into 5th Congressional District race

Taylor Burks of Hartsburg, who has run unsuccessfully for for Congress in the past, loaned $900,000 to his campaign and donated $100,000 to help him go up against longtime congressional incumbent Emanuel Cleaver, a Democrat. Two of Burks’ competitors in the Aug. 4 Republican primary ended the quarter with far less money but actually raised more in donations from individuals and political action committees. The "Money raised" reflects the amount of many raised for the candidate in this quarter, while "Cash on hand" is the accumulation of funds left that the candidate is able to spend.
