The cost of producing pork has decreased since the 1990s

In 1992, the average cost per 100 pounds of weight gain among hogs — a hundredweight (cwt) — was more than $131. By 2015, the average input costs per hundredweight dropped to $53. Experts say specialization, technological innovation and public policy have contributed to the drop in production costs.

Feed costs are in 2015 dollars.
