Number of Clinical Medication Trials by County Grouping (2022)

Data represents only counties with a clinical trial.

The U.S. Office of Management and Budget defines areas as metropolitan (metro) if they have at least one urban cluster with a total population of 50,000 or more and as micropolitan (micro) if they have at least one urban cluster of between 10,000 and 50,000 people. These metro and micro areas can be further divided into counties that are either central or outlying. Central counties have a significant portion of their population in the urban cluster. Outlying counties have significant commuting ties to the central counties.
