The University of Washington Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation projects the United States will see 576,026 deaths by July 1, 2021, from COVID-19. The death toll is projected to be as low as 567,126 with universal mask-wearing and as high as 641,332 if mitigation mandates ease and vaccines are less effective against virus variants.
