Dog Bites in Calgary: 2009 to 2019

Bites in Calgary are assesed on the Dunbar scale of wound pathology. Level 3.5 was added in 2013. There are no recorded level 6 bite attacks causing death from 2009 to 2019.

Level 1Dog growls, snarls, no-teeth touching skin
Level 2Teeth may touch skin but no puncture, minor scratches or lacerations
Level 3Punctures with 1 to 3 holes, single bite with no tearing or slashing
Level 3.5Multiple level 3 bites
Level 4Two to four punctures with considerable bruising; dog clamped down and shook from side to side.
Level 5Multiple level 4 bites; a concerted, repeated attack causing severe injury
Level 6Any attack causing death
