This FTR Transportation Intelligence analysis compares snapshots of the for-hire freight carrier population between March of 2020 and September of 2021. Truck counts are based solely on MCS-150 data. Given carrier MCS-150 forms are only required to be updated every two years, some carriers' growth, or contraction, will undoubtedly not be reflected here. The analysis excludes purely private carriers as well as parcel giants to move closer to a reflection of the truckload sector. Bars represent the number of trucks added over the time period by each carrier size group, with new one-truck carriers leading the way.
