USDA Agricultural Research staffing (FY2020-FY2026)

The Trump administration’s efforts to downsize the federal workforce have hit scientific research especially hard. The Agricultural Research Service – the USDA subagency which runs the Beltsville facility– lost 2,200 workers between fiscal years 2025 and 2026 alone. Just over half of employees who left took a buyout or early retirement.
