Accepted vs. rejected signatures for Good Government Lincoln

The Lancaster County Election Commission reviewed a first set of more than 30,000 signatures for the Lincoln-focused campaign seeking to reshape city elections. Of those signatures, election officials rejected more than 65% for a variety of reasons. Most of those rejected signatures were flagged as possibly fraudulent and referred to law enforcement.

Supporters restarted signature gathering Aug. 5 and turned in a second set of signatures Aug. 19. About 29% of signatures were rejected in the second batch of signatures. As many as 6,480 signatures were not reviewed because enough signatures were already validated.

State law allows verification to cease once a campaign exceeds 110% of required signatures. In the first batch of signatures, all signatures had to be reviewed. Each petition needed at least 4,981 valid signatures to qualify for the ballot.
