School lunch debt in Kansas City area districts
Two Kansas City area districts qualify for community eligibility, meaning all their lunches are free and they carry no debt. In other districts, debt has ballooned since the end of the pandemic lunch waivers.
A table shows the school lunch debt load for nine Kansas City area school districts. Two, KCPS and Hickman Mills, have no debt. The remaining seven carry debt loads between $33,000 and $214,000. KCKPS has the most students with lunch debt, while Lee's Summit has the fewest.
