Proposed maps add more white, Hispanic and Black majority districts

The proposed congressional maps released Wednesday would create two more districts where white residents make up a majority of eligible voters, one more Hispanic-majority district and two districts where Black residents are the majority of eligible voters — up from zero. The number of districts with no majority in eligible voters of any race or ethnicity would decrease  from nine to four in the proposed maps.

According to the latest Census figures, white Texans make up 39% of the total population while Hispanics make up 40% and Black Texans make up 12%.
