As fuel costs exploded last week, more bad news is that all-in spot rates averages actually ticked down for both reefer and dry van haulers, as shown here. Flatbed performance was the good-news outlier, according to the latest, March 9-dated weekly report from Truckstop.com and FTR Transportation Intelligence. Flatbed rates gained 5.6 cents/mile on average, rising everywhere but the West Coast, FTR noted. That's 13.4% higher than the same 2025 week for the strongest prior-year comparison since April 2022. Flatbed spot load volume was up, too, for the "sixth straight" week, and at the highest levels seen in nearly four years.
