Despite the rise in border crossings, the number of migrants with criminal histories fell dramatically
Border Patrol agents stopped more than 850,000 people in the 2019 fiscal year. Only two had been convicted of murder or manslaughter in any country.
In some cases, the same person was convicted of multiple offenses. In 2019, 4,269 migrants with criminal convictions were apprehended by Border Patrol agents, down from 12,842 in 2016.
