Police Rarely Issue Parking Tickets Within One Block of a Precinct Despite Frequent Citizen Complaints

The NYPD says it issued tickets in response to less than 2% of 311 complaints about illegal parking within a block of station houses, and the problem is only getting worse. Police officials have admitted in city council hearings and community board meetings officer-owned vehicles frequently double park, park on sidewalks and in bike lanes. Complaints were filtered to only those geocoded within a radius of 40 meters of all 77 precinct station houses, corresponding to roughly the length of a north-south block in Manhattan.
