If you’re planning to enter consulting, you can expect to top out at $170,000 in base pay. Just two programs in the T14 – Columbia ($224,500) and U.C.-Berkeley (Haas) ($175,000) had graduates make more than $170K. Looking for a surprise? Harvard ranked just 13th in average starting consulting pay for the Class of 2015, earning over $7,000 than MIT (Sloan) grads, who lead all comers at $137,062. In fact, McKinsey alone hired 31 members of Sloan’s 2015 Class, making it the largest consumer of Sloan talent. After Sloan, you’ll find the best average starting pay for consulting at Virginia (Darden), Dartmouth (Tuck), Columbia Business School, and Northwestern (Kellogg). Rank doesn’t necessarily equate to salary when it comes to consulting. Brigham Young (Marriott) consulting grads, for example, earned more than their Ivy counterparts at Yale and Cornell (Johnson). In fact, BYU consultants made just $1,100 less, on average, than Stanford consultants. And let’s not forget the University of Wisconsin, where one graduate snagged the second-highest consulting starting pay at $190,000.
