Top districts in overall proficiency in ELA (top) and math (bottom) for students in grades 3-8 among non-charter public school districts.
STATE NOTE. Results reflect the Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP), administered to grades 3-8; data accessed 9/1/26. "Proficiency" here includes students achieving "proficient" or "advanced" on the assessment (levels 4-5).
DISTRICT INCLUSION. Districts included in this figure are public non-charter regular school districts, as defined by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). Results are displayed only if no individual grade level (between grades 3-8) had suppressed results (thus preventing accurate aggregation) or if the State Education Agency provided an aggregated district total for grades 3-8; in other words, smaller districts may not be represented here if grade-level results are suppressed. Districts must also have at least 40 students tested across grades 3-8, so that a very small tested group cannot produce an extreme rate. All MS regular school districts met these criteria in 2026. Mississippi does not publish district participation rates, so no participation screen is applied.
