From March 2020 to April 2020, Mississippi's employed population dropped by more than 200,000, from 1,202,800 to 1,002,500, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The unemployed population -- which are people who do not have a job but are actively looking for one -- rose from 64,300 in March to 195,400 in April. The numbers have leveled off some since then: 1,099,100 were working and 132,800 were unemployed in July, the latest numbers available. 86,000 people had fallen out of the workforce altogether from March to June, but about 38,000 reentered in July.
