Percent of female active authors* in selected countries** and the EU28 in all subject areas.

For most countries that were studied, the ratio of women in research has increased between the two time windows 1999-2003 and 2014-2018.
At the top is Argentina, where more than half of researchers are women, while Japan lags behind significantly with women making up less than a sixth of all researchers.

*Active authors: those who have published at least two publications (i.e. articles, reviews or conference papers) during the two respective periods (1999–2003 and 2014–2018).
**Selected countries: Countries with at least 30,000 authors with at least two publications during the period 2014–2018 and those for which at least 80% of author profiles had a first name and at least 75% of author profiles with a first name had a Gender Probability Score equal to or above 1.735.
