The Deadliest Days on Roads Across The Nation
Saturday led every day of the week in 2024 with 6,218 traffic deaths, followed closely by Sunday at 5,597 and Friday at 5,588, meaning the weekend and its edges account for the majority of the week's most dangerous driving. Thursday (4,832) and Monday (4,766) round out the top 5, together with the weekend accounting for nearly 3 in 4 fatal crashes across the entire week. The pattern points to a clear culprit: weekend leisure travel, later nights, and higher rates of impaired driving on Friday and Saturday nights specifically.
