Economic diversity

The Hachman Index attempts to compare the diversity of industries in a particular region to that of a reference region; greater diversity is considered a sign of a more resilient economy. Comparing 2011 with 2021, economic concentration is increasing in San Francisco — as well as Manhattan — indicating more of the economy is concentrated in fewer industries. Meanwhile, the San Francisco metro area economy is growing more diverse.
