Figure shows the distribution of people admitted to prison in California with a gun enhancement affected and not affected by SB 620, by age and conviction years 2014–2025. Two sets of horizontal stacked bar charts compare the age demographics of "Unaffected" and "Affected" groups before (2014–2017) and after (2018–2025) the law took effect.
Unaffected Group: The age distribution is relatively stable. The 18–25 group decreased slightly from 48% (pre) to 46% (post), the 26–39 group stayed constant at 39%, and the 40+ group increased from 13% (pre) to 15% (post).
Affected Group: There is a more pronounced shift. The youngest demographic (18–25) saw a significant drop from 57% (pre) to 48% (post). Conversely, the middle age group (labeled 26–29 in the chart) increased from 32% (pre) to 38% (post), and the 40+ group increased from 11% (pre) to 14% (post).
