A 91% Decline in Traffic Citations in Philly

Over a 26-year period, citations for moving violations fell by 91%. Despite this decline, more recent data since 2010 show that even as tickets decreased, fatal crashes remained somewhat steady. That changed during the COVID pandemic when city roads got deadlier. Since 2020, fatal crashes and pedestrian deaths have spiked. Police are responding with stepped-up traffic enforcement, particularly in known accident hot spots.
