Metro-east water customers alerted to PFAS levels

Four community water systems with metro-east customers had levels of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances — better known as PFAS or “forever chemicals” — that exceeded the new regulatory standards finalized in Illinois in 2025.

The limit for each specific type of PFAS chemical is included in the column header. It is measured in parts per trillion, or ppt.

The most recent date each chemical was detected at a level exceeding standards is noted in italics.
