The hexagon in each state represents the racial or ethnic group with the highest crude mortality rate for the second quarter of 2022. The sizes of the hexagons are proportional to the magnitude of the rate represented. This map excludes groups with fewer than 10 deaths, following the CDC’s typical standards for suppression.
