The year 2023 had the highest rate of bicyclist fatalities per capita and the second highest rate of bicyclist fatalities per bike commuter since data on bicycle commuting became available through the American Community Survey.
Bicyclist fatalities per million people and per 10,000 bicycle commuters, from 2007 to 2023. Rates for both have been steadily increasing over the past decade, reaching a recorded high per capita in 2023.
