Breakdown of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Associated With Buildings
Buildings produced 12 billion metric tons of CO2-equivalent emissions in 2019, divided into: indirect emissions from electricity use, direct emissions from cooking and heating, and embodied emissions from construction and materials.
Bar chart shows the sub-sector breakdown of the Building industry and its contribution to total greenhouse gas emissions in 2019. Indirect emissions, which refers to emissions generated off-site, accounted for over half of buildings-related emissions in 2019 at 57%.
