Visualizing police spending vs. library spending in Vermont

This map puts Vermont towns on a spectrum, analyzing (per capita) which spend more on police, which and spend more on libraries. Hover over a town to see the spending biases, total library and police budgets and the population.

Data was collected from FY22 town budgets and calculated by figuring the per capita police spending, per capita library spending, and identifying the difference between the two figures. For example, Hinesburg spends $177 on police per capita, and $51 on libraries per capita. Therefore, Hinesburg spends $126 more per capita on police than they do on libraries.
