Estimated annual hospital admissions caused by alcohol

The estimated number of annual inpatient hospital admissions in Northern Ireland caused by alcohol, according to the Sheffield Addictions Research Group (SARG).

Alcohol-specific conditions were defined as those which are "caused entirely by alcohol" such as alcohol-related liver disease or alcohol poisoning. The remaining admission causes were calculated using an Alcohol-Attributable Fraction (AAF) based on how many of the admissions were likely to be alcohol-related based on rates and risk.
