Gov. Matthew G. Bevin of Kentucky says the state should not support degrees, such as French literature, in the same way it supports degrees in electrical engineering. But data on the number of bachelor's degrees awarded in those areas, shown below, suggest that very little state money is now being spent on degrees in any foreign-language field.
