Despite some mismatches between FBI and local police agency numbers, first quarter homicide trends generally agree

Both FBI and local police department data show that in most big cities, homicides in the first-quarter of 2024 went down compared to the same time a year ago. But transitioning to new reporting systems continues to present challenges for agencies, only a third of which reported the same homicide figures as the FBI.
