Iran Leads Global Spike In Executions

Executions carried out around the world reached a 44-year high in 2025, according to figures compiled by Amnesty International. Much of the increase was led by Iran, where executions by the authorities have steadily risen over the past five years.

At least 2,707 people were executed globally in 2025, according to the human rights NGO.
