Aid increasingly fell short of what was needed through 2024

Humanitarian aid provided by the U.S., Germany and other countries that have historically provided the bulk of those funds has not grown at the same pace as the global need for that money. The gap between what was needed and what was provided expanded significantly between 2016 and 2024. By 2024 humanitarian aid totaled less than half of the nearly $50 billion required.

A line chart with two lines. One depicts the global need for humanitarian aid and the other traces how much of that aid was received. The gap between the two lines has gotten wider over time.
