Table 1: Impact of demographic performance weighting on allocation of additional Lok Sabha seats

The major states represent only 509 seats in the current Lok Sabha – the other states and UTs not mentioned account for the remaining 34 seats. Five southern states’ share: In 600 LS (23.7%); 650 LS (23.8%); 700 LS (23.7%). For this table: all UTs (except Delhi) and all northeastern states (except Assam), Goa, and other hilly states (J&K, Himachal, Uttarakhand) have not been considered. For additional seats states are scored using a weighted index: 10% early achievement of replacement fertility, and 90% on if rate of decline was above -31%.
