The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) gives democracy scores ranging from 1 to 10 (shown on the horizontal axis). The chart shows how the predicted average (log) weekly deaths from covid (vertical axis) varied with the EIU democracy score.
The daily deaths from covid shows a u-shaped relationship with democracy scores from the EIU. The deaths seem to increase initially but when the score crosses 7 (on a 10-point scale), they fall.
