The Top 10% Hold Nearly Two-Thirds of America’s Assets

Rising markets overwhelmingly benefit households at the top: the bottom half owns less than 1% of corporate equities and mutual fund shares.

Figures show aggregate household assets held by each wealth percentile group in Q2 2026. Values are in trillions of U.S. dollars. The Federal Reserve defines the groups as the top 0.1%, the remaining 0.9% of the top 1% (99th–99.9th percentile), the next 9% (90th–99th percentile), the next 40% (50th–90th percentile) and the bottom 50%.
